A company is an organisation that, in the pursue of its objectives while respecting
its "raison d'être" and its identity, has an input, executes processes, uses information
and produces an output. Its human organisation using software applications are making the company to function.
Each of these aspects has a structure and characteristics. Each of these aspects can be engineered.
There are, however, other aspects, like the corporate culture and human
characteristics which are present. These aspects require other skills and methods.
In the recent years, we observe a clear tendency that the importance of
informal organisation and social aspects is growing. Web 2.0 is an example of this.
These human or informal aspects may neither be ignored, nor be refused.
They should be embraced. But these aspects do not replace the engineerable
formal structure and mechanisms of a company, but they are complements partially
grafted on the formal structure. However some tools supporting this social aspects
are systems and can also be engineered.
